I crashed on my bicycle on Saturday, the 4th of July and fractured the radial head in my right arm. I am supposed to keep the arm immobile, in a sling for a week, and then movement as tolerated. No cast. I have certainly had worse pain from other things (such as chemo, or cellulitus infections that are more common with lymphedema patients.) Chris and I have been watching the Tour de Fra-hance (say it right!) to make up for my personal Tour de Gravel, the tour he and I went on, and subsequently, the Tour de Emergency Clinic (Don't tell Dr. Le Pew.) What can I say? I am POD Armstrong.

I went to work earlier today but came home and took a 1.5 hour nap. I didn't even know I was tired. I alternate sleep with sitting on the deck in the sun. The weather is glorious. I am watching and listening to a baby red tail hawk soar just outside my window. Good day to have a broken bone.

DAMN! Sorry to hear about this. I envy you the glorious day, but all this is a pretty big cloud to look for a silver lining on.
Heal quickly and well.
Yikes!!! Ouch!!! Man, I'm sorry to learn about your crash & injury. Has this impeded your reading at all?
Take care, POD.
Ouch! Sorry to hear about your spill. I wonder if biking is like skiing when they tell you if you don't fall you're not trying hard enough. Hope your arm is better soon.
Sorry to hear you are broken. Hope you heal quickly.
On the other hand, it sounds like a perfect excuse to sit on the deck in the sun and watch baby hawks learn their skills!
(How long do you think you can milk the situation?)
so i guess the arm wrestling tournament is out.
sorry about your bike ride smack-a-matic (and REALLY sorry you had to endure the ER) at least its a cool injury (not like slipping in the tub or losing your balance going after a dropped lottery ticket while wearing stretch pants ...)
Oh, and the person wearing the stretch pants in my last post is me! (I had to crawl under my desk to fetch a cable in front of my boss yesterday ... - not pretty ...)
Way to celebrate the 4th POD! Ouch...
Agree with Lisa...at least it is a cool injury. My fear is stepping on a rake and smacking myself in the head.
Take care of you, and I hope you can get back on your bike soon.
BTW, thanks for the encouragement on my blog the other day to keep moving and helping loved ones move toward a healthier lifestyle.
Thanks for the comments and stretch pants visuals. My arm hurts like hell.
Lee said she envisioned me standing on my bike seat but that was not what I did.
You know, if you wanted an excuse to stay home and watch the hawks outside, there were easier ways to go about that.
I'm just sayin'. ;)
and I was already too fraidycattish to get back on a bike.
no joke.
hope the pain is lessening, oh POD of mine.
Carla
Oh crap!
You are not whining nearly enough in my opinion. Arms come in pairs, damn it, and one functional arm is just not enough. Plus, it's gotta hurt a bit.
I'm glad you at least got some good weather!
So very sorry, POD! I have some damage now aleo. Hopefully you and I will look back in a few weeks, and just be left with a bad memory.
I have an image of you and Chris speeding down US 1 in the Fiat with the memory left far behind on the curb :-)
Thanks for reactivating my "Death-Case Scenario" in regards to biking. Not a big fan of watching Tour-de-France with husband because he has to rewind and review every accident (now in HD), and share, "Amy watch the guy in the red shirt slide down the pavement."
Have been peeking at your blog, but lots of computer issues so I haven't been able to comment. I think that naps are the perfect prescription for broken bones. Mend quickly!
