Karma and Kancer

危機
It is important, therefore, that an individual learn whatever lessons are presented to him at the earliest opportunity, or harsher conditions will continue to prevail until he does.

I attended a class last night. I am really enjoying these classes. The class is supposed to go from 7p until 9p though the teacher talks past 9 p.m. You don't dare leave because you might miss something important. This is a spiritual class. I don't want to say which kind of spiritual class because I don't want to seem greedy.

Guess what? (go ahead...I''ll wait.)
I found out from another class attendee how I got cancer. I was amazed that he would know this information. I almost wrote about the conversation when I got home last night though it was way past bed time. I decided to crash and burn, hoping I'd be able to recall our conversation this morning. Below is a paraphrase based on 5 hours of sleep per night for the past three nights:

Man: Cancer is your payback for being greedy when you lived on the island of Atlantis.
Me: Hmmmm....
Man: Yes. There were several types of greed on the island of Atlantis, material, spiritual, and this all took place on the on the continent of Atlantis under the sea.
Me: Hmmm...
Man: You probably suffered from spiritual greed. That's why you got cancer in this life.
Me: *snoring*
Man: I'm a magician!

Needless to say, I am meeting some very interesting people.

No matter which theory you buy into about *how* a person got cancer, don't repeat your theory to a person who has or had cancer or repeat various theories to their relatives. Theories don't help and they may cause bad karma.

Bad karma, indeed.
Did he mean to say it was something you were greedy about before Atlantis sank into the sea? 'Cause I didn't think Atlantis was occupied after it sank.... but I could be mistaken.

And I would never presume to try to explain to someone (or their nearest and dearest) why they were stricken with cancer. Personally, I think it unexplainable, but that's just my humble opinion....

Or did I mean "inexplicable"?
Something to ponder.....

OMG!! This post cracked me up! I am impressed that you actually managed NOT to slap the man?? If being greedy made a person get cancer, everyone would have it...good heavens...

Man: I'm a magician! - ooh I can't bear it, it's killing me - *sound of person falling on the floor laughing*

Are you making this up? About the Atlantis thing?

In other news, I'm feeling sad lately because I found out yesterday my sister's husband (whom I just did see in KY last week) was diagnosed Tuesday with leukemia. Starting chemo this afternoon. I'm not going to mention anything about Atlantis to him, for sure.

Oh My!
really ... I would've LOVED to see the look on your face when that gem came falling out of his mouth.
LOLing here.

Hmm, interesting theory! Did you ask him what HE did back on Atlantis to become such an asshole in this life?

And I wonder how he's going to enjoy his next go-round as herpes virus.

Well now, that's an interesting theory. How did you manage to listen to him with a straight face? It takes all kinds, I guess...wild that he's in your class!

Heh! I love it. But . . . okay well maybe I'm a nutjob too, but I try to think of these "messages from insane people" as having a kind of truth of their own. Maybe "Atlantis" and "greed" are just metaphors for something else. Since the messenger is (a) insane and (b) only human, all you get is a tiny thread of what the real message might be. It's like a dream that doesn't seem to make sense in the moment, but then it comes home to you a month later.

Or he's just a nutjob. Whatever. :)

BL, in/un let's call the whole thing off

Rox..very funny. I could have used that as the post title.

Melissa, I am not making it up. There were a lot more words in what he told me than what I wrote. I mean, he really went on about things and Edgar Cayce etc. I mean, this guy knows his stuff. I mean, he *knows* it.

I bet he would be fun to date!

These kind of conversations can be fun until the person starts asking you where you live.

In a way this reminds me of a variation of a statement boxer Mike Tyson said, "Everyone has a theory, until they get punched in the mouth!" Some people get punched in the mouth before they express their theory.

OMG! I went to college with that 'guy' (the magician ...)

He is the 'guy'* who felt the need to share with me information about "my problem" (he was confused - his problem was that I didn't want to sleep with him in spite of him thinking that i was the fall back option ...) His other problem was the fact that he was still in scholl despite having reached his 30s and he smelled funny.

*the 'guy'* is actually a composite of a number of guys still in college at 35 and eager to instruct me about "my problem"

And now apparently, he is still "helping" people. how, errr helpfull ...

I love how you find these people. You should fix him up with "brownie girl".

ok SERIOUSLY?!

I am one who (although my emails may appear otherwise) really works to keep all thoughts and opinions to myself unless BEGGED otherwise.

I am recoverying from non-hodgkins Lymphomia cancer. Apparently, it effects a lot of school teachers. It stems from epstein-barr virus and a mixture of other virus's. If that guy woulda said that me, I would have snapped crazy. We live in a time where cancer now effects baby-boomers vs the grandparent generation. The environment, food, air, water, etc. has made this planet into a contaminated universe. Sadly, so many of us are getting cancer 20 or 30 years earlier than previous generations.
Blessings!

That is *horrible!*

I can't believe anyone would say something like that to someone else.

I'm shocked. Truly.

Did he have unusually long fingernails (slightly dirty), with greasy long black hair? And, was he skinny?
