Dawn of a New Day

It dawned on me that if I did not watch television, listen to the radio, read magazines or news off or online, visit a store or drive, I wouldn't know it was the holiday season. But then I do all of these things so I guess my point is moot.

My lymphedema compression hose arrived. They are very small. And with credit to the measuring experts, the hose fit me well. When I first saw them, I thought they'd never fit but my mind is still playing tricks on me since the weight loss surgery in June. My mind still doesn't register the weight loss even though my clothing is much smaller. I still haven't purchased clothes. I wait for other people to be disgusted by the mere sight of me. Then they offer to give me free clothes. I got a sweater, a lovely leather jacket and two pair of jeans. (not to mention the temporary loan of my sister's nightgown with the rain gutter sleeves.)

You know how when you're gaining weight and you can tell by how your clothes fit? Everything is just too tight. Your belly bulges. You might have to lay down on the bed to zip up your jeans. Your shirt buttons come together but the part between the buttons never meets again. You've gained weight yet when you look into the mirror you still see this beautiful specimen of a human-being standing before you? Losing weight with weight loss surgery is exactly like that only with free clothing.

Yeah, I don't think you can avoid knowing it's the holiday season. How you end up dealing with it is another thing, though. Hopefully this year will be easier on you than last year was.

It does take quite a while to recognize your thin body - your post got me wondering when I started naturally gravitating toward the smaller-sized clothes in the stores, instead of automatically grabbing the XL's. Can't remember...I guess you lose your mind along with the fat.

Considering the ordeal that you had to go through to be measured it's good to know they fit.

So glad you're getting a good deal (i.e. free) on smaller clothes.

You'd probably better throw a couple of decorations up in case Hannah comes over. Maybe she could help you, even.

I hope you'll find a way to make peace with the Holiday season, decorations or not. If you want to live through mine vicariously, I'm in full on holiday frenzy these days so I'll be posting lots of fun photos.

Excepting the last line of your last paragraph, you've just described my dilemma. That's why I don't like my photo taken. I'm always so SHOCKED at the fat woman in the photo.

LOL!! It's not so much that people give me clothes but I am always finding clothes that fly off pickup trucks or open cars along the roadside where I run.

If I find any dresses I'll send them to you :-)

Body image is a weird thing. Makes you wonder if we ever see ourselves as others see us.

Sending positive thoughts your way today.

So, does this mean you need a nametag so that you'll recognize yourself when you catch glimpses of your new body in store windows and random mirrors?
